Review: I’ll Be Good to You by Chelsea Maria
Yazlyn is a woman with a good head on her shoulders and knows what she wants in life and love. In her six-year relationship with Marshawn, settling was not going to cut it. Even with the perfect guy that checks all Yazlyn’s boxes, he didn’t want marriage. Being a wife wasn’t something she was willing to compromise.
It was a tough but necessary decision to split from a great guy to find the right one. Yazlyn wanted to be a wife and all that it stood for.
Kaalan was a hot head with a foul mouth and a love for bedding women. But after a year hiatus in Jamaica, he vowed to change his ways and it made him a better man with a clear focus.
When Kaalan meets Yazlyn, it looks like both were in the midst of a major change to make room for each other. Yazlyn’s job was to find Kaalan the love of his life through her matchmaking business and ended up being the woman he wanted. She found herself wanting him just as bad.
I loved the interaction between these two. They had a connection that many people will never experience. Yazlyn’s ties with Marshawn proves how we can get comfortable with good enough because it comes easy. However, the pull that Kaalan had on her was too much for her to deny.
The spiritual side of things in this book played well into the characters’ desires in life and proved to guide them right into each other’s arms. Kaalan’s relationship with God was beautiful. It made him real and relatable. He staked his claim on Yazlyn the moment he met her and did what he needed to make it a reality. His territorial persona was a lot, but he knew she belonged to him.
Yazlyn being a respectable woman, it was too funny to see Petty Patty and Clingy Cindy come out. Again, these characters were relatable and aware of their flaws which made them easy to love.
Great story! I’d hope to see more from these two.
