October’s Book of the Month: Hook Shot by Kennedy Ryan

Episode 10 is full of spoilers if you haven’t read this book. Continue to our reviews to avoid us giving away everything!

A deeply emotional standalone romance set in the worlds of professional basketball and high fashion.

Divorced. Single dad. Traded to a losing squad. Cheated on, betrayed, exposed.
My perfect life blew up in my face and I’m still picking up the pieces.
The last thing I need is her.
A wildflower. A storm. A woman I can’t resist.
Lotus DuPree is a kick to my gut and a wrench in my plans
from the moment our eyes meet.
I promised myself I wouldn’t trust a woman again,
but I’ve never wanted anyone the way I want Lo.
She’s not the plan I made, but she’s the risk I have to take.

A warrior. A baller. The one they call Gladiator. Kenan Ross charged into my life smelling all good, looking even better and snatching my breath from the moment we met.
The last thing I need is him.
I’m working on me. Facing my pain and conquering my demons.
I’ve seen what trusting a man gets you.
I. Don’t. Have. Time. For. This.
But he just keeps coming for me.
Keeps knocking down my defenses and stealing my excuses
one by one.
He never gives up, and now…I’m not sure I want him to.

Telicia’s Review

I loved it! Hook Shot was so real, I saw everything and experienced some of it with the characters that made me sad and respect characters strength so much.

My favorite character was Lotus. I love how she was there for her cousin in the first book and how she was there for herself getting the help she needed it this book. She wasn’t a hurt person that kept the curse going, she is an amazing woman and I love her!

Bridgette’s Review

I just wanna know if I can purchase some of Kenan qualities somewhere? My other half needs a few. ;D

Kenan is funny, smart, thoughtful and not to mention sexy. My new favorite character would have to be Simone. She has grown to not only find value in herself but also in her dad’s relationship with Lotus. So proud of her.

Renée’s Review

All I can say is wow! Hook Shot had so many going on. In a good way. Lotus was a woman damaged by her childhood like most are and she goes through it. You get an inkling what happened to her, but Kennedy Ryan revealed her pain in a way that really hurt even as a reader. Lotus was so strong and so in tuned with herself thanks to her bloodline that involves Voodoo priestesses. (Yeah! Voodoo lol)

I didn’t know what to really think of her at first or what would become of her story. I knew I felt her pain and it was real. Love and intimacy scared her and all she wanted was to be able to handle going that far with someone. That’s were Kenan came in.

Kenan had a type of pain that simply developed from his previous marriage and his not-so-great relationship with his daughter. Being a basketball player took a lot of his time from his family and they all suffered for it.

When these two came together, we all saw it coming. But the intensity of their chemistry was everything. I love the way they were together. The fun they had, the vulnerability required for them to trust each other with their hearts, and the patience and sacrifices both made for one another.

There were some mouth-on-the-floor moments when it came to Kenan’s ex-wife and daughter. I don’t want to say too much lol.

Kenan and Lotus have a beautiful love story that isn’t perfect but it’s something worth all they have. I loved this story because it was multidimensional. Lotus’ background with her great-grandmother, MiMi, and her mother blew me away.

I was so happy that she was able to receive the love and guidance from MiMi when she needed it the most. That part of her story really touched me since she still had someone when the one person who should’ve been there betrayed her. She learned so much from her great-grandmother and referenced it so much like many of us do when a strong woman steps us for us. It molded her to be an extraordinary woman. Her strength and faith really showed out in the end.

Loved It!
