Book of the Month 2021

June’s Book of the Month: The Marriage Contract by Shay Davis

Below is Episode 29, and it’s full of spoilers. If you haven’t read The Marriage Contract, skip down to our reviews.

Boring. Invisible. Pretty for a plus size girl. Those were all the things I felt about myself, thanks to my chosen career as an accountant and society’s depiction of the perfect female. For once, I wanted to be something, no someone, different. So, I booked a trip to Vegas for my birthday. Then, walks in Soul Matthias, treating me and my body as anything but ordinary. He lit a fire inside of me. However, it wasn’t real.

Player. Bad boy. High risk. That’s what the blogs depicted me as. That’s what baseball owners banked on to lowball my contract extension. I didn’t care about social media, but I definitely cared about my money. I had to get my act together. Then, struts in Alexa Livingston. A breath of fresh air, someone completely different than what I had ever been used to. But what we had wasn’t real. It was just a marriage contract. Or was it?

Renée’s Review

Can you say sexy AF? I couldn’t get enough of Soul and Alexa. From beginning to end, I was in love.

Alexa was my kind of girl. Cute, thickums, smart, sexy (but don’t claim it), but stayed in a shell. I am her and she is me lol.

Soul oozed sex appeal from the pages and Alexa was more of a reserved woman that would pop off if need be. She deserved everything she got in the end. Loved them.

This is that keep-a-smile-on-your-face kind of story. Even with BS characters like Candice🙄. I loved everything that transpired the way it did. Two people who are feeling the heck out of each other but neither of them said a word to the other person. It’s almost torture because you want to scream it to the other person for them lol.

Shay Davis did a great job with this one. We forget that we have so many gifted Black MLB players out there. It was cool to see one up close and personal, even if only between the pages.

Alexa and Soul were a great couple. I have to say I don’t know if I could have went all the way to Vegas alone 😬 but seeing the outcome of their story…it may be an option now 😅. Alexa was my fav because she made her own money and didn’t mind splurging every now and then.

In the end, it worked out for the both of them even when the road took a turn for what I thought was the worst. Loved it.
