Kush is the very definition of Daddy’s little girl. Whatever she wants, she gets. There’s no Santa Claus or Tooth Fairy in the hood, just Daddy, her knight in shining armor. But when he was murdered, her life spirals out of control. A child in the hands of a negligent mother, Kush is forced to kill in self defense. Sent to YDC and later orphaned, she meets Redd in the streets of Atlanta. Together they link up with Bear, a mastermind who is seemingly a Jack of all trades. With his help, they put together a crew, and pull a number of capers to raise their status. Suddenly the tables are turned. A member leaves the crew for a shot at legitimacy. Enemies made along the way are plotting to retaliate. Loyalty is tested, and close friends are turning up dead. A target now, Kush must find the enemy, and put an end to the threat. As the pieces come together, she realizes that the forces gathered are more powerful than her own..

Renée’s Review

The Hottest Summer Ever Review

I’m a romance story type chick. The last urban romance I read was G-Spot by Noire. I just hate reading about the immense amount of pain that usually comes with urban fiction. I also don’t enjoy reading about criminal lifestyles down the specific details.

However, once I got into this book, I was in it for the long haul. Once there was suspense behind the murder of Kush’s dad, I was hooked because I needed to know. I’m a sucker for trying to guess whodunnit. I was right about some things and so wrong about others.

This book was movie material. It was so much damn killing lol. Reading about this crew pulling off some pretty dangerous jobs was definitely stressful because anything can go wrong and as readers, we never want to see the main characters die no matter how much bad sh!t they do.

Kush was a character you rooted for but she stayed doing the opposite of what you wanted her to. I guess that was another aspect I liked. She made some very human mistakes. I wanted her to win and get her life on the right track. She had it rough. No matter what she did, I needed her to overcome it all. That she did.

This book kept me on my toes. I really couldn’t trust anybody or ever let my guard down. When I thought you knew something, there was another twist to it. But when all the dots connected, my mouth fell open like crazy. More than once too.

Elijah R. Freeman definitely did his thing with this one. It wasn’t so predictable which made it also exciting to read.

I just finished the entire book discussion, and y’all had me rollin’. Definitely enjoyed the positive energy. I wanna say thanks for giving Urban Fiction a chance. Despite the fact that this isn’t your go-to genre, I’m honored that my novel was selected for y’all November read.

Although it wasn’t what y’all were used to, it is a reality; one that many people like myself face everyday. To some, this is urban fiction, but to many others, this is Fictional Realism.

Glad y’all enjoyed the read. 📚💯

    P.S: Part 2 is in the making…
