Book of the Month 2023

January 2023 Book of the Month – The Prodigy by Shae Sanders

Below is Episode 48, and it’s full of spoilers. If you haven’t read The Prodigy, skip down to our reviews.

“First day back home and already in some mess.”

Jakari Windermere hasn’t been home to Midling in eight years. He’s been laying low in Atlanta, and nobody knows why. But it doesn’t matter now, because a tragedy draws him back to the town he grew up in…the town his family basically owns. But this won’t be a pleasant homecoming, and he finds that out the moment he sets foot back in Midling.

Responsible Malika Andrews has never left Midling, boring as it is, so when rich, fine Jakari walks into her job, she has to hide her excitement. Finally, something interesting is happening in her life.

She has no idea.

A shocking act of violence and betrayal binds Jakari and Malika together, and they both find themselves married to a complete stranger. Jakari’s goal? Keeping the family business intact so he can go back to his life in Atlanta. Malika’s goal? To stay alive. As the newest member of the Windermere family, she’s in a den of vipers, and it’s eat or be eaten.

***The Prodigy is book one in the Family Ties series. Be advised, this story ends on a cliffhanger.

Telicia’s Review

5⭐

I can relate so much to having a huge crush on the most popular guy in school & feeling invisible. It’s like Malika was really me. When she said she wasn’t ugly, just poor, I felt that as well. I also did not guess the end at all, I was so off. I thought Jakari moms Gab was trying to kill him 🤦🏾‍♀️ it’s 2 in the morning, I could not stop reading this book. Oh & Jakari is bae 😍, he can make me marry him any day 🤣

I’m glad by the doggone end Malika and Jakari stopped saying (Fake Marriage) got on my last. Chile, I really don’t know where in the world they can go from here! Guess I gotta find out….book 2 loading…

I enjoyed the flow of the story and the characters.

5⭐

This daggone book! I knew I’d have to read the whole series once the author said it ended on a cliffhanger. Sometimes, you can get away with just reading one book if it doesn’t grab you. Well, this ain’t that kind of book. You’ll definitely WANT and NEED to read the whole series.

Malika started out as a scared prisoner to her damn high school crush, and then things turned and turned, and these fools fell in love. Even if they won’t say it. The back and forth between them before the feelings came in were hilarious. Inside he hated being seen as a monster, but bruh, you did what you did. And she didn’t want to be attracted to someone she was afraid of.

I love it when a book keeps me guessing about who did what. Unfortunately, I was right, and I really didn’t want to be. Like, I really hate that. Lol. Now, I was wrong about who I thought was coming after Jakari. All of em are on my list. Can’t trust nan one.

Then there’s the family. The brothers are cool for now. Jaz is not ditzy. I don’t see it. She’s about to show them all who she really is. At least, that’s what I think. But Gab! Oh, hell no. I wasn’t fooling with the Mama from the jump because I like Malika and Gab be tripping on her. I knew that woman was responsible for a lot of the mess, but DAMN. That’s all Imma say. Just Damn. Lol

Now on to book 2.
