August’s Book of the Month: Stay Down by K.C. Mills
Below is Episode 43, and it’s full of spoilers. If you haven’t read Stay Down, skip down to our reviews.
Sometimes the one thing you need is the one thing you’re running from.
For years, Kalvin Wise’s only focus was making sure his baby sister, Ciara was safe and loved. Being the product of a toxic union, Wise and Ciara were left to their own vices to survive in the world. Wise refused for his sister to feel the same emptiness he did growing up, which meant survival by any means necessary to provide balance for himself and his sister.
Forced to leave her past situation alone, Noa finds herself circling back into the single life. Going with the flow and refusing to settle she also decides that her approach to love has to change.
An instant attraction is formed between Noa and Wise that neither of them is ready to admit. Past feelings are still fresh for all involved making it hard for these two to navigate a new connection. Noa is bound and determined not to fall for a certain type, while Wise still must consider his number one priority, Ciara. Will these two figure out this new complicated situation or will their past continue to interfere?
In order to Stay Down you have to prove you can be down!

I have really enjoyed this. Noa and old girl did somethings I’m not sure I would have, too scary lol. My girl Ty was my hero. She stood her ground and has a good head on her shoulders. She is very focused on what she wants and No One is gonna deter her

Man, I didn’t know how I’d feel about Wise at first. I knew he was a good person after the prologue because he loved his sister so much. The way he was with Lee…I was like, there must be a girl that will make his change. (I didn’t read the synopsis) Noa came into the picture, and that was it.
I loved how she fought hard not to fall for anything after her ordeal with Devin. She was guarding her heart, and I was happy that she did. There were some stereotypes and past experiences with similar guys that she placed on Wise. Good thing he was patient and willing to debunk all she thought she knew.
The love that man had for Ciara “Bug” was adorable and made you love him even more. No one came before her, and he did everything to protect her heart. Even from their mother.
The side characters were giving so much. Like, they all need books if they don’t have them already (I haven’t checked). Dom was crazy, but he knew it lol. I loved all of this story, the drama, the upsets, surprises, resolve, and the loving relationship that developed even without saying the words😉

Story 5 stars but the errors almost took a star
I’m not an English major by no means, and it’ll probably be some errors in my review
. so it’s pretty bad when I catch several spelling errors. However, the storyline was AMAZING!!! I love Wise so much. He is bae.
He’s my favorite character. I can relate to him so much. Both of our mothers are awful and have no remorse. For him, it was his baby sister that he refused to ever feel what he felt. I feel the same way about my daughters. It brings me so much joy when hurt people make the decision not to hurt people. I loved a lot of the characters and would love for Juke and Dom to have their own books.
