July’s Book of the Month: The Real Deal by Alexandra Warren

Below is Episode 54 and our reviews. It’s full of spoilers.

Reagan is living the dream.
She has a wonderful, fulfilling job working at the local community center. She has her own place and a comfortable lifestyle. The only thing she’s missing is someone to share it all with. Unfortunately, the second she thought she may have found the one was only a few short months before she found his fiancé. And now, the only way she can prove that she has really moved on from him is by showing off her new man. But there’s only one problem. The new man doesn’t actually exist.

Insert Gavin.
An innocent bystander and up-and-coming rapper caught in the chess match of Reagan’s game on his first day of community service. When she desperately needs him to fulfill the role as her boyfriend to save face, Gavin quickly finds ways to also benefit from their arrangement.

But what happens when the line between fulfilling a role and real companionship begins to blend? Can something that starts off as a deal between two strangers actually turn into something real?

Telicia’s Review

Reagan got on my nerves the entire book!!!  But at the same time, she gives me hope. Because if Gavin can love her through her craziness, maybe God got somebody for me. That girl literally had the perfect guy, and she just was looking for something that wasn’t there the entire time🤦🏾‍♀️. Let me stop before Gavin gets mad at me because he doesn’t play about his girl. I really enjoyed reading & picturing in my head Gavin loving on Reagan. Gavin got me looking at rappers differently. He was giving Russell Wilson. Oh & big S/O to his mom. She is an amazing mom.

Renee’s Review

Reagan was all over the place, but it played well into what type of person she was. Insecurities will bring out that emotionally unstable side. The Real Deal had me hoping for the real deal someday. Gavin was so genuine, mild-tempered, and patient. All of those traits were necessary for his relationship with Reagan.

Reagan was in denial so much that I wanted to pop her upside her head. Granted, she had reservations about falling for Gavin because of his profession and her perception of what that would mean as his woman. Once they both stopped playing, she was sometimes accommodating and insanely jealous at other times.

Gavin didn’t know where he stood with Reagan at first, and it made sense for him to play it cool. After his intentions were revealed, he fell head first. I loved to see it. He considered his woman in major decisions, which showed just how much she meant to him. Good thing he had Caleb to keep him in line when it came to moves he had to make if he wanted a successful career.

I enjoyed seeing these two try to maneuver unknown territory in life and their relationship. In the end, their destiny was obvious. They just fit. Cute love story.
