February’s Book of the Month: Made for You by Kami Holt

Below is Episode 49, and it’s full of spoilers. If you haven’t read Made for You, skip down to our reviews.

Synopsis:

Why doesn’t she love me? That’s the question that lives rent free in Ciyani
Robinson’s head. After tragedy strikes her mother completely abandons her
leaving her with responsibilities that she was not old enough to handle on her
own. The walls begin to close in on her as she tries her hardest to keep her
head above water in this cruel world. Caught between a rock and a hard place
she makes a tough decision that changes the course of her life forever.

Justice Graham seems to have the perfect life on the outside. He’s fine,
wealthy and educated but something is missing. His parents were the
blueprint for Black Love but in his eyes that type of love doesn’t exist in his
world. He’s content with his situation just the way it is until a feisty, little
beauty barrels into his life, making him question everything he thought he
needed. What starts out as a budding friendship turns into more than he
planned for. Can he handle all the baggage that comes with her?

He thought that he was rescuing her but was she the only one that needed
saving?

Telicia’s Review

Being that I can relate to Yani, aka Baby Girl, so much. Justice is made for me😍 🤣. I really love them so much. I hate Yani’s childhood so much, but she did get to witness unconditional love from her stepdad. I’ve never had that, but I can totally relate to how much she tried getting love from a mom💔.

I love Yani speaking about how Justice was so kind & her getting witnessing it at a back-to-school event as a child and then getting to experience it for herself as an adult. They were really made for each other, being everything they both needed. I love them being best friends first & the big deal he made to be her man. I don’t know how he’s going to top his proposal, but I believe in him. I would love a spin-off on some of the other brothers & cousins of Justice.

Renée’s Review

It took me a minute to get into this story but once I did, maannnn!

Ciyani had a tough childhood with a mother who hated her and the world on her shoulders. Having to raise her brother while she was still a child put her in positions that she wasn’t proud of. So much so, she wouldn’t ask for help from people who would’ve come through. I felt so bad for her but also trusted that her hardships would be the comeback story she needed.

Justice was made for everybody lol. He was perfection even when he jumped to conclusions or made decisions that weren’t favored. If that man did not give his all at ALL TIMES. Yani and her brothers’ lives were forever changed while tryna get food from the grocery store.

Justice’s family was everything Yani and her brothers needed. We all had to wonder when the budding friendship would turn into something more. I love stories when both characters like each other but no one says it for a while. It’s hard to watch but hard to look away. Like, tell them how you feel already!!!!

Justice finally couldn’t take it anymore, and when he told Yani how he felt… It was beautiful.

Catika was evil and she got exactly what she deserved in the end. I didn’t think Justice had it in him, but I wasn’t even mad at him. That woman went through hell as a child but that doesn’t excuse the type of hell she brought on her children. Empathy is thrown out the window once you mistreat your kids because of your past. Naw.

The story ended with me smiling and so happy I did not give up on it grabbing me. Once it did, I truly enjoyed this couple’s journey to success and that real kind of love.
