Bridget Jones’s Diary
meets Survival of the Thickest in Danielle Allen’s CURVY GIRL SUMMER, a smoking-hot, hilarious novel about the perils of online dating.

“There’s got to be an easier way than dating. I want the shortcut. I just want to find my person and start our lives together.”
After a one-night stand with her clingy ex, Aaliyah James has an epiphany: this ain’t it. She knows what she wants, and she’s ready to move past casual hookups, flings, and situationships.

But for her family, the clock is ticking―after all, she’s almost thirty. And when they imply that her personality (and her body) might be too big to land a man, she lets them know they’ve gone too far―and her (nonexistent) man loves her curves, thank you very much. Now, she has seven weeks to find the perfect boyfriend to rub in their faces at the big, fancy birthday celebration she’s been planning.

After her first blind date goes wrong, charming local bartender Ahmad Williamson consoles her with a drink and some playful banter. Aaliyah takes him up on his suggestion to use a dating app―but the more she sees of his warm, funny, and easygoing nature, the less she wants to check her DMs. Will her next swipe bring her closer to true love―or is her real match closer than she thinks?

Telicia’s Review

It was no secret to me that Ahmad & Aaliyah were end game. However, all the details shocked me. The way their first time together was literally right across the street from both of there homes was CRAZY. Like OMG 😆. I was definitely here for it. I love them both so much! Aaliyah is a big girl like myself and I want to feel about myself how she feels about herself. It brought me so much joy watching her love herself enough to not settle. Her uncle got on my nerves but he finally did what was right with her birthday gift. Omg her friends are top tier. I love Nina, she had me cracking up with every conversation. Nina is living her best life, and saying everything that comes to her mind. I’m honestly hoping book 2 is about her with sprinkles of Ahmad & Aaliyah. Then Ahmad sister Ariel is a real one, before she told some of Ahmad business about not being married. I thought Ahmad had a wife at home that was slowly dying and pushing him to move on. I’m glad I was wrong. Then his trauma made me sad, but also proud he was in therapy. Omg the ending of him doing something he hasn’t done in 3 years to be there for Aaliyah. I believe him when he says he’s do anything for her. The entire book watching them make jokes & just enjoy getting to know each other. I really felt like I was there, cheesing mostly.

Renee’s Review

Well, Damn! Can that be the whole review? Cuz…Damn.

This book had it all. Sexy, Funny, Healing, etc. She was dating prospects from an app every Friday for the summer to find a man for a 30th birthday party. Talk about determination.

The dates were awful. Yet, I loved every minute of them because Mr. Ahmad was right there with Miss Aaliyah. At first, I didn’t know what his role would be, but it seemed like he’d be important. Since we all assumed he was married, we saw it as innocent. Then the questions started popping up the more he helped Aaliyah and cared about the men she chose. I freaking loved it.

This was a love story I didn’t know I needed. I’m still terrified to jump back into dating, so this book came right on time. Doesn’t mean I’m ready but I felt like I wasn’t alone in my fears. Aaliyah’s courage to jump out there to find what she wanted was so inspiring. Despite her dumb ass uncle stuck in his ridiculous ways and pressure to be someone she wasn’t by her family, she stayed true to herself and eventually found the perfect friend that was secretly the perfect man that we all eagerly waited for her to accept.

The pain from losing loved ones and the process in which they had to heal was heartbreaking and beautiful. They truly helped each other get to the other side. Now, they found the real thing in one another.
